Evolution Korea
For a long time the scientific community in Korea has been hesitant to engage with the creationists, fearing that doing so might give the movement more credibility. Silence is no longer a viable option.
The STR has been fighting to eliminate content from textbooks that explain evolution, including the discovery of the feathered dinosaur Archaeopteryx as an ancestral bird's ancestor. This is only one aspect of the evolution of the development paradigm.
What is Evolution?
Evolution is a concept in science that explains changes in genetic characteristics over time. The theory is based on the fact that living things adapt to their surroundings and this can lead to changes in genes or even complete genomes. These changes can over many generations lead to the creation of new species. Natural selection is the most popular theory of evolution. It explains how people with traits that are advantageous survive and reproduce more than those with less favorable traits. As time passes, this difference in reproduction could result in the creation of entirely new species.
The term "evolution" is derived from the Latin word for unraveling or revealing, however the concept has had a variety of meanings since it took shape in the sciences and in other fields. Early evolutionists, such as Jean Baptiste de Lamarck and Erasmus Darwin (Charles's grandfather) believed that the existing species evolved into new species in a predetermined fashion. The term transmutation was coined by the Lamarck's disciple embryologist Etienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, to describe this notion. Charles Lyell, in his Principles of Geology, published in 1833, criticized the concept of evolution and borrowed the term from Geoffroy's student.
Evolutionary biologists define it more recently as a process by which living things develop characteristics that increase their chances of surviving or producing offspring. As time passes the genetic variability could lead to the emergence of completely new physical or biological functions in the same population. Natural selection is the main force behind most evolutionary changes. However other changes that are not genetic, such as increases in the muscle mass as a result of diet or exercise cannot be considered to be examples of evolution since they're not inherited by the next generation.
Creationists have a tendency to use the argument that evolution is controversial, even though it has been proven to be true by thousands of scientific tests and that it has been tested over time. They argue that the concept should not be taught in schools. In South Korea, creationists have had a few wins in their efforts to eliminate evolution from high-school textbooks, including the removal of references to the evolutionary origins of humans as well as the Archaeopteryx feathered dinosaur thought to be the ancestor of birds.
Why is Evolution Important for Humanity?
Evolution is the explanation for the origins of Earth and all living species. It is also a foundation of biology and helps scientists comprehend how living organisms operate and grow. It is important that science educators advocate for teaching evolution. In certain countries, the anti-evolution movement has been growing. In the United States some states have taken steps to limit the teaching evolution. In South Korea, a group known as the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) which is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research is urging the elimination of textbook content about the evolution of horses and the Avian ancestor Archaeopteryx.
While these are troubling developments, it is important to keep in mind that the evidence for evolution is overwhelming. The evidence comes from a diverse variety of sources, including fossils, genetic studies and the behavior of living organisms. The evidence is also independently verified by other scientists.
The vast majority of scientists agree with the theory of evolution. The reasons behind this belief vary. Certain scientists are studying evolution to discover practical solutions such as developing new medicines, while others do so to improve the quality of animal and plant species, usually for the benefit of humans. Some scientists are simply curious, whereas others have an intense belief in God.
What is Creationism?
Creationists believe that God created all things in the universe. They also believe that the Bible is God's word and should be believed to be true. Many creationists are Christians However, not all. Creationists generally fall into one of two categories: Young Earth creationists (YEC) and old earth creationists (OEC).
YECs are the most well known form of creationist, and they believe that God created the universe in the exact way described in the Bible. YECs hold that the biblical account of six days of creation was literal and that the universe and the life on Earth were created only recently.
OECs are less well known however they are as enthusiastic about their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe that the universe as well as Earth are billions-of-years old and that evolution is a myth.
Both forms of creationism deny the scientific theories that natural selection and biogenesis can explain how life began on Earth. They claim that evolution is not possible because it would require a miracle, and that the pioneers of modern science shied away from miracles due to fear that they would lose credibility.
Some creationists believe in both naturalistic evolution and special creation, and call their view "theistic evolution." 무료 에볼루션 is sometimes also called "continuous creationism" or "evolution from the created species." This theory states that God creates the original species and then allows these to change over time. These evolutionary changes eventually will result in new species that are similar to the original.
Other creationists believe that God created the universe and all living things during a single event, referred to as the Great Flood. They reject the concept of abiogenesis and claim that self-replicating living cannot come from nonliving matter.
In general, the creationists oppose teaching evolution in schools. Numerous professional organizations, such as the National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Science Teacher Education support this position as do the American Anthropological Association and the Geological Society of America. Some academic institutions and scientists are, however, more flexible and allow creationism and evolution to be included in their curricula.
What is Creationism in Korea?
When people think of the concept of creationism typically think of the United States. However, South Korea is also the home of an anti-evolutionist movement. Publishers of high-school textbooks recently announced that they will remove references to evolution in their books. The Society for Textbook Revise, an independent body which is an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KACCR) has been the driving force behind this effort. STR has won its first victory in taking away instances of the evolution of the horse as well as an avian ancestor called the Archeopteryx from textbooks. It is now focusing on removing excerpts from Darwin's infamous finch research and on human evolution, too.
무료에볼루션 to have the support of around 4000 families and individuals. Its mission is to cut out what it believes is the "atheist materialism" that creates a bleak worldview for students. It also seeks to counter the influence of American Creationists across the country. A survey of trainees in biology revealed that half of them did not believe evolution. The reasons aren't certain, but could be related to religious beliefs or the lack of creation scientists in the country.
The KACR achieved many things through its seminars and lectures in the past. It also publishes a bimonthly magazine called Creation and a book. Among these is a textbook on the natural sciences that has an orthodox creationist perspective, which attracted the attention of college communities. In 1991, a professor, along with a minister, began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught today.
On August 6-7 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. This was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from abroad including ICR's John Morris and Steven Austin, spoke to thousands of people. KACR and its members have been giving lectures on creation science at major seminaries as well. KACR is planning to create a Creation Science Education Center.
